Unlike other exams, XAT includes unique sections like Decision Making, which test critical thinking alongside traditional business aptitude.

Eligibility for XAT and XLRI Programs

Anyone with a bachelor’s degree (minimum three years) in any discipline from a recognized university is eligible to take the XAT. Final-year graduation students can also apply. While XAT doesn’t enforce minimum marks, many participating colleges, including XLRI, require a minimum of 50% (45% for reserved categories) in graduation.

XLRI Selection Process Steps for XAT 2025

Phase 1: Register for XAT 2025

Candidates must first register for the XAT exam through its official website by December 2024. While registering, you can also choose to apply for XLRI programs, such as:

  • PGDM in Business Management (BM)
  • PGDM in Human Resource Management (HRM)
  • PGDM in General Management (GM)

Ensure all details are accurate and complete to avoid issues later in the selection process.

Phase 2: XAT Exam Day

The XAT 2025 exam will test you across five sections:

  1. Verbal and Logical Ability (VALR)
  2. Decision Making (DM)
  3. Quantitative Aptitude and Data Interpretation (QA & DI)
  4. General Knowledge (GK)
  5. Essay Writing

Here’s a brief overview of the marking scheme:

  • +1 for each correct answer.
  • -0.25 for incorrect answers (except in the GK section).
  • -0.10 penalty for skipping more than 8 questions.

The essay writing section, though evaluated separately during selection, tests your skills in logical thinking and effective written communication.

Phase 3: XAT Results and Shortlisting

XLRI will announce XAT 2025 results on its official website in the third week of January 2025. Your scorecard will reflect both sectional and overall performance. Based on XAT cutoff scores, candidates are shortlisted for further rounds.

Cutoff scores vary annually, so prepare to score well above the previous year’s scores for a safe margin.

Phase 4: Selection Rounds (GD/PI & Essay Writing)

Once shortlisted, candidates proceed to XLRI’s second stage, which evaluates interpersonal and communication skills alongside academic performance. This stage typically begins in February 2025 and consists of:

1. Group Discussion (GD)

Participants debate or discuss topics ranging from business to social issues. The goal is to assess leadership, collaboration, and logical reasoning skills.

2. Personal Interview (PI)

The interview panel probes candidates’ academic backgrounds, work experience (if any), and suitability for the selected program. Questions may span current business trends, leadership qualities, and personal achievements.

3. Analytical Essay Writing (AEW)

Introduced recently, this round assesses your clarity of thought and written expression. Topics are often business-oriented or require you to present a balanced perspective.

Phase 5: Final Merit List

Your final selection depends on a comprehensive evaluation based on different parameters:

Selections are announced via the XLRI portal, and successful candidates receive their admission offers shortly after.
